Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cacao farms in El Salvador, not least because it’s an oasis in the middle of sugar cane plantations.
The soil-transforming power of shrubby forages such as canavalia, cratilia, kudzu, mucuna and nitrogen-fixing trees has transformed Chiquihuat’s soils in astonishing ways. Minimal tillage, the use of biostimulants, the work of mountain micro-organisms on fallen leaves, planting with water trays, run-off control, fire prevention and controlled pruning have created a fertile and productive land.

Finca chiquihuat is led by Don Herbert, a doctor and a cacao maestro. He talks about cacao as a medicinal fruit. Far from the industry but at the same time with a strong awareness of the highest quality standards. His focus is always on the cacao which he calls "ancestral", his farm is very diverse and has a large amount of cacao criollo.
A lot of attention is given to a rigorous post-harvest technique, where fermentation of the beans is controlled in such a way that as many of the chemical components, having beneficial health effects, are retained in the cacao bean.

At Finca Chiquihuat we find:
– Timber trees: Cenícero, guachipilín, conacaste, chestnut, volador, cedar, funera, guayacán, ebony, ciricote, madrecacao, acacia mangium, poró, tihuilote, hormigo, carreto gavilán, birch, oak.
– A great variety of fruit trees: Jackfruit, loquat, zapote, guaycume, paterna, mango (7 varieties), lemon, coconut, guava, cashew (cashew), morro, caimito, avocado, manzanita de agua, ojushte. We can also mention the cushtan and the patashtes (theobroma bicolor), which belong to the same family of cacao.

All these trees form a protective shade forest that allows the cacao trees to be productive and healthy

caffeine . our filter cacao contains about 1/8 to 1/10 of the levels of caffeine compared to the same volume of filter coffee . as a result it can be enjoyed round the clock without caffeine-jitters.

theobromine . a cup of 150ml filter cacao contains 50mg of theobromine . a gentler, more steady and long lasting source of energy.

polyphenols . the same cup of 150ml contains 90mg of polyphenols, known for their contribution to maintain the elasticity of blood vessels & optimum blood flow . a daily dosis of 200mg is considered having immediate positive health effects .
so you only need 2.22 cups of filter cacao to hit that mark.

no waste . after brewing you can reuse the cacao grounds for baking, scooping into your (plant-based) yoghurt or granola, etc . it just keeps giving.

calorie-free . the high cacao butter content of our light roasted ground cacao (55-58%) delivers a unique, complex taste & aroma to our brew . but by using a paper filter, our brew is considered completely fat- & sugar free with only 1.7 kcal/100ml.

About our packaging

We do our upmost to work by the reduce, reuse, recycle - principle.
This reflects in our packaging.

Our PET jar is a lightweight, circular packaging. After serving a first lifetime, it has been recycled into our rPET. And is now again, reusable or fully recyclable to get a third lifetime and more. So cherish its beautiful scars.

Our label has been developed to be fully removable. Different from the classic labels with a high intensity permanent glue (which makes the label unremovable & the PET jar consequently burnt instead of recycled) we've opted for our paper label with a thin layer of PE and non permanent glue.
You can either remove the label when sorting, or the label will be removed during the recycling process.
